extensions

Clip-ins, tape-ins, weaves, pre-bonded, fusion, micro-link…what does it all mean? There are so many different styles of extensions and terms, that it can get overwhelming if you are new to the world of hair extensions.
Before getting into the different types of hair extension application methods, the first thing you need to to know about hair extensions is that they come in real human hair extensions and synthetic hair extensions.
Human hair extensions can be treated just like your own natural hair. You can straighten, curl, blow dry, color them, and apply hair products.

Tape In

Tape-ins are considered semi-permanent. Typically, they last 4 – 8 weeks before you need to remove and re-apply them. Just like any other hair, however, it depends on how well you take care of them and on how quickly your hair grows.

Crochet

Crochet braiding is an installation method for bulk (or non-wefted) hair extensions; The natural hair can be be twisted, braided or styled into cornrows before affixing the synthetic hair; Using a crochet hook, the synthetic hair is then attached. Parts of the hair extensions are grabbed by the hook and pulled through the underside of each cornrow.

“Crochet braids” is associated with African hair styles. Known as a protective style, the technique can assist with hair growth if cared for properly.
It’s a great technique to choose if you’re worried about damaging your natural hair or simply want to give your hair a break.

I-Tipe

I-tips are a type of hair extension that latches onto natural hair using flattened microbeads or metal cylinders. While they’re sometimes synonymous with micro links, technically they are different. “I-tips differ because they are individual pieces of hair that are used with a cylinder piece that all interloop around a person’s natural hair.

I-tips are a great option because they offer easy access to the scalp. All your natural hair will be left out, unlike with sew-in weaves, where the majority of natural hair is braided down under the extensions. This translates to less time in a stylist’s chair.

Keratin fusion

Keratin fusion or bonded hair extensions are strands of about 350-375 individual hairs that are attached to your existing hair and can add length, volume, texture, highlights, lowlights, or all of the above. When fusion hair extensions are added by a trained professional, you should be able to wear, color, and style your new hair as if it were your own natural hair. The best part about keratin fusion hair extensions is that you can try just a few to see how you like them.
